My men and I are heading to Stockholm in June to visit family and the boys (22 & 19) have been wondering what there will be to see and do.
I had already started a list for myself from some recommendations from Facebook friends:
- A restaurant called Olssons Garlic and Shots.
- The Museum of Ethnography.
Plus one of my own must-sees, the Stockholm Public Library designed by Gunnar Asplund.
Yesterday, I tweeted a couple of questions at the curated account for Sweden.
Hi @sweden! My family is visiting Stockholm in June. What do you recommend for young adult males in the way of things to do and see?

Apart from the “strip-clubs” response that I got (I probably walked in to that one), here are some of the helpful suggestions (suggesters in brackets):
- The new Tele2 Arena – concert and soccer stadium (@Sweden / Emma) – also bowling alley inside.
- The BIke! exhibit coming to the Architecture-Design Centre (their other exhibits look good too.) (@ArkDesC)
- The Game On 2.0 exhibit at the Technical Museum (@zethian)
- Great views of the city from the restaurants and bars at the Södra Teatern, a theatre venue. (@IngridAmy) (ooh…just noticed they have a jazz brunch on Sundays!)
- An amusement park, Gröna Lund. (@roomie)
- The Skyview gondolas on the Globe Arena (@IngridAmy)
- “A picnic (with lots of beer, presumably) at Skinnarviksberget.” It’s the highest natural point in the city and has great views. (@Sofia_Alexandra)
- A science-fiction bookstore in the Old Town. (@milk0matic)
Then I posed a question mainly for myself:
My second question for @sweden and Swedes: suggest some good novels by Swedish authors/set in Sweden to read before and during visit.

Responses:
- Millennium Trilogy (3 eBook set) – The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest (I have copies but haven’t read them yet.) There is a Millenium walking tour that covers some of the sites in the novels.
- Crime fiction by Liza Marklund
- Crime fiction by Asa Larsson
- Life is Swede
by Claire Duffy (recommended by the author, with a LOL!)
- The Emigrants by Vilhelm Moberg
- The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden
and The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared
both by Jonas Jonasson - John Ajvide Lindqvist’s Let the Right One In
(vampires among us)
And then Trip Fiction piped up (@TripFiction) to tell me about their curated book site that helps you choose books by destination! How did I not know about this site before?
